New Functional Materials from Nanostructured Polymers

چکیده

The dispersion of nanoscale particles or domains in a polymer matrix can provide nonlinear enhancement of the material properties and produce novel nanostructured materials with unique and controllable properties. Our group is currently examining systems that will provide an understanding of how manipulation and control of the structure of polymeric components can be utilized to efficiently and reproducibly produce nanoscale structures in a host polymer matrix. Additionally, the hierarchical ordering of nanoparticles, (carbon nanotubes, buckyballs, quantum dots, etc) in diblock copolymers provides an additional level of control that provides unique properties that are not accessible with neat polymers or bulk polymer nanocomposites. We are particularly interested in developing new materials for plastic photovoltaic (Solar) cells.
